Solomon Islanders ‘don’t want’ Chinese security deal

Many Solomon Islanders are deeply troubled by their government’s secretive security pact with China – which could see a military base established on the island within four weeks.

The pact, announced earlier this month, has sparked alarm in both the United States and Australia.

Peter Kenilorea Jr, an opposition MP in the Solomon Islands, told Sky News Australia his people “don’t want this – we don’t need a security agreement”.
