‘Shocking failure’: China-Solomon Islands pact a ‘bad result’ for Australia

The security pact between China and Solomon Islands is a “really, really bad result” for Australia, says former Labor minister Graham Richardson.

“The fact that we didn’t really know it was happening would suggest a terrible failure of intelligence, a shocking failure,” Mr Richardson said.

“Somebody’s got to be held to account for that, because it’s something that’s placed Australia in a much poorer position than it should have been.”
